Recycling programs

We strive to improve every community in which we operate.

In Papua New Guinea, our liquefied natural gas project has a waste wood distribution program in the villages around the liquefied natural gas plant site, just outside of Port Moresby. Workers dismantle and remove nails from the waste wood, as it comes mainly from construction packaging. The wood is then transported to a wood waste collection area. Local residents bring their own trucks to collect the donated waste wood, which they use primarily for construction projects in their communities. In 2012, ExxonMobil donated approximately 3.8 million pounds of wood. In addition, our contractors in this area have provided around 160,000 gallons of waste oil to Papua New Guinea companies for reuse and recycling opportunities. For example, a local sugar cane company reused 100,000 gallons of our donated waste oil in boilers during the sugar cane production process.
